This week has been a crazy week! Filled with ups and downs and a couple of what the fucks. So where do I begin? I guess Tuesday is best.
Tuesday:
Woke up expecting to have an exciting new day at work. Now, I know going into a new job is always a little different at first, but it was pretty interesting. Let's start with the security. It is way more intense than my old building. You are required to wear a security badge around the office to get in and out of units and the building. Plus guards and cameras are everywhere. On some level its nice to feel safe, but then you question if going to the bathroom will be a problem.
Now that we're on topic of bathrooms, here's a plus! They have hands-free toilets and sinks! Awesome! Not just for the clean factor, but for the usage of water.
As for cleanliness of the building, another plus! No one has a personal garbage can, so you learn quickly to reduce your trash that you bring to work with you, if you don't want to be getting up constantly to the garbage/recycling location.
About the location of my new building, it's 2 km less of a drive. And with the price of gas, that's a plus for saving a few pennies.
Which brings me to the money part of things, 71 cents more pay. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it does add up.
As for the people I work with, they are different. Of course they are, everyone is different. I have some friends there too, so that's nice. Knowing me and my personality, I will fit in and love everyone (even the ones "I'm supposed to stay away from").
The last part of work, the actual job. Talk about monotonous. I'm up for a challenge or even a boring job, but this was a little much. An ipod was required the next day to keep my sanity. It's also a slight slap in the face getting paid more in this position, compared to my old one. I guess the pay difference is for the responsibility of the products I am dealing with.
So far I am looking forward to my contract ending to go back to my old job.
As for Tuesday evening. First I had to go pick up my car from the shop. I knew it was going to be costing a few hundred dollars, because I needed to do some classic maintenance. I really should have been there 3,000 km ago, but I put it off for financial reasons. And just as well! $600 later...THIS did not help my attitude from my first day of work either. Ugh. I guess the positive side of this was that it was going to cost more, but because things are still under warranty it was less.
Next off! A going away party for a friend. It was nice getting to see people, but I was staying in town and the spare room was already occupied, so that means I got the couch. Also, the party didn't die down until after 11:00...and I like going to bed early throughout the week. Finally, when everyone went to their rooms, it was still a struggle seeing city lights, hearing city traffic, TV's in bedrooms, talking, etc...So it wasn't until 1:00 that I finally drifted off. I kept waking up in the night/early morning because other people were getting up as well. Which made for a tired Wednesday.
Wednesday:
Tired, but better day. I had my ipod loaded up and listened to favourite tunes all day. Plus, I got to go home and have a good sleep in my own bed.
Thursday:
A little bit better day at work. I have hope that I can do this job for a while. I am really looking forward to next week, when I get to meet my Supervisor (she is on holidays this week).
After work, I had to deliver papers...did I mention that there was a wind warning? 90km winds! WTF! I could barely do the papers. So intense. I had to finish them up quickly, because I was meeting with other friends that evening to do suit fittings for a wedding I am in these summer.
I don't like spending money right now, because I don't have it. A couple more dollars down on shirts and ties. I really like that we are buying suits and what have you, rather then renting though. I always find renting the tuxs/suits are a sham. They aren't that nice, they aren't that comfortable, and you have to find the time within a couple of days of the wedding to return everything. If you buy, its a tailor fit, and you get to keep everything.
After the fittings, we all went back to their place. I made us a nacho dinner, had a couple of beers, and then went to bed. These friends are early birds as well, so that was good.
Friday:
Went to work, it was okay.
After work, delivered my last round of papers. I am no longer PAPERBOY. I decided to give up the route, because the difference in pay will cover that, plus a little extra. Besides, I'm sure this summer, some kids will be looking for a paper route in their neighbourhood.
Got home and AC came over for a visit. I made us the best burgers ever. Seriously. They were epic. I wanted to test them out, because I want to make them for my Mother's day dinner I am hosting out here. I will take some pictures and try to do a blog post about them next Monday.
Just as AC was leaving, NORM got home. He was finally spending the night and he brought his kitty with him. Her name is Lucy and she is adorable. I got to bed a little late last night and here is another WTF moment. Around 3:30 this morning lights were going on and off, doors were opening and closing (including mine). I think NORM is a sleepwalker. We're new to each other, so I am not going to bring it up quite yet. For all I know, maybe he was awkwardly looking for his cat or got disoriented. I will test the waters to see if it happens again. It was slightly freaky seeing someone open your door, walk in, an walk out. Hmmm...come to think of it...isn't 3:30 the devil's hour? Shit.
Today:
Good day.
Up early.
Pot of coffee brewing.
Gorgeous weather.
Finally writing on the blog.
And my "Little" and I are going to Chuckie Cheese later this afternoon.
This week has been interesting to say the least, but here's the thing...It's funny that it's not really any more different in the randomness of any other week. I love my funny life! Hope everyone has had a great week! Any weekend plans?
Be Well!

Dear friends and family,
My deepest apologies for slacking. I will make it up to you tomorrow. This has been a long week, to say the least.

beastie boys.
I like me some beastie boys and I liked any video that has over 30 cameo appearances! Amazing!
P.S. thanks to my friends for sharing this with me last night.

reviews-day tuesday.
The Messenger (4.5/5)
Starring: Ben Foster & Woody Harrelson.
"An American soldier struggles with an ethical dilemma when he becomes involved with a widow of a fallen officer."
I caught the tail end of this movie when my roommate was watching this movie and the last half is much lighter then the first half. All in all a good movie. Pretty intense though. The scene where Ben Foster gets up to grab a beer and leaves Woody Harrelson in the living room practically broke my heart.
The Green Hornet (3/5)
Starring: Seth Rogen & Jay Chou.
"Following the death of his father, Britt Reid, heir to his father's large company, teams up with his late dad's assistant Kato to become a masked crime fighting team"
I wanted to like this. I liked the TV show. And I loved the actor who played Kato in this movie and all of his scenes. And that rap scene is hilarious, but I don't think I was feeling this movie. I would give it another chance, but today's review is good enough for me.
Scenes of a Sexual Nature (?/5)
Starring: A lot.
"Various Londeners meet people in Hampstead Heath park"
Has anyone seen this? I need another review. A lot of aspects to like, but I don't know about this guy. I think I loved it. What do you think? Love this style of movie though.
The Speed of Thought (2/5)
Starring: Nick Stahl, Mia Maestro, & Taryn Manning.
"Imagine "Inception." Now imagine "Inception" with a C-list cast, obscure locations, and a visual effects effort similar to a PBS production from the 1980s"
And I was trying to come up with my own explanation. Thats pretty much it though.
Welcome to the Rileys (3.5/5)
Starring: James Gandolfini, Kristen Stewart, & Melissa Leo.
"On a business trip to New Orleans, a damaged man seeks salvation by caring for a wayward young woman."
I think I would have loved this movie. So many parts were amazing. But it was like they decided to delete a couple of scenes that would have made the movie work a little better.

don't might if I do.
Today is Easter Monday and when you are a government employee, you get to have this day off. Hello! Don't mind if I do, indeed!
I tried sleeping in...made it to 8:30, which is awesome for me! Got up, made a pot of tea and watched a movie. Then I got my ass in gear, took my new pruning shears and started to attack my bush...rose bush dirty minds. I even got some other yard work done as well. Apparently some other rotten trees decided to fall down (just little guys though). So I made a nice bundle of branches and placed them beside the fire pit for a future bonfire.
My mom decided to show up for an afternoon visit (another government employee). She brought me some random house treats; garbage bags ( enough that will last me a couple years. I've owned the placed since June and have only went through 20 garbage bags), solar lights, window screening and the tool to put them in. I love my Mom because she is as random and weirdly thoughtful as I am.
A couple hours later...
Another visitor. NORM! The new roommate. His parents also popped over to see the new digs and meet his new roommate. We all seemed to get along quite nicely, which is grand.
As time went on...
Mom left...
Norm's parent left...
Norm left...
Which forced me to finish my little bit of yard work, some laundry and a re-org of my bedroom. It looks fantastic. It's funny how moving the room around, re-organizing where you put clothes, or throw dirty laundry can make you feel so good about a room.
After all was said and done with the chores I through on the boob-tube. I try not to watch TV, but apparently I had some free time this weekend and was slightly obsessed with the Food Network. Which is my favourite "show" anyways and I kind of got hooked on this show called Top Chef Canada...wow. I could not handle being on a show like that. I found out that it plays at 9:00 on Mondays...well fancy that, it's Monday! I am staying up to watch it. OY! I hate wanting to watch TV...makes me feel so dirty.
Anyways, I figured I should write this up before it comes on and also finish packing my bags for tomorrow night. I will be staying in town for a friend's going away party.
Hope you all had a great day! Wish me luck on the new job tomorrow!

easter dinner.
Today my family celebrated Easter. We're not the religious type, but we love each other, love our food, and love getting any chance to spend time with one another. Today's feast was hosted by my Aunt, but we all brought different food items and had a potluck type Easter. We still had the traditional ham though. We also had pork, meatballs, beans, pasta salad, potato salad, deviled eggs, cheese and pickle tray, and my zucchini bake. All was a success! Everyone's food was amazing. We also had plenty of dessert! Chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter marshmallow squares, cupcakes, chocolate pie, and lemon meringue pie. Sooo much food. We will all be in food comas for the rest of the evening, but like Jesus, will rise again tomorrow....Hmmm, this may have been an inappropriate joke? Yes? I don't know. Forgive me Father for I have sinned...Did I just do it again? Frick!
Love you all.
I hope everyone had/has an amazing Easter! Tell me what you had or will be having.

cousin kate.
Today was my last day at my regular job and I start my new one after the Easter break. Today was a good day. I will definitely miss all of my friends. They put on a great show for my "last supper", or lunch rather. I'm not really feeling much about the new job yet, I'm sure I will get the "first day of school" feeling on Monday night.
My cousin Kate asked me to come over tonight, so that's just what I did.
We have been listening to classic tunes of her childhood and mine, having amazing flashbacks!
P.S. we have been drinking....should have written this sooner.
Hope everyone has an amazing Easter weekend. I will try to get to the blog at some point. Be Well.

rainy day people.
Mr. Lightfoot said it best, "Rainy day lovers don't hide love inside, they just pass it on" and that's just what I did. Today was a rainy day and it tends to bring out the sad and/or negative in a lot of people. The thing is, there can be a lot of good that comes from this weather and it wouldn't be around if there wasn't a reason for it. Plus, just think how much you appreciate those sunny days after a week's worth of rain. It's like a good cry...but for the Earth. Then there is my selfish reasoning; filling my cisterns! Guess who gets to have a bath this week?! (What? I shower, but a bath is nice now and then.)
Are you a rainy day person?

reviews-day tuesday.
Meet Joe Black (4.5/5)
Starring: Anthony Hopkins & Brad Pitt
"A media mogul acts as a guide to Death, who takes the form of a young man to learn about life on Earth and in the process, fall in love with his guide's daughter."
I haven't watched this movie since it first came out. I don't know where I came up with the idea that Joe Black was an alien. Maybe I didn't understand death at the age of 13...Oh well, watching it now was fantastic. I teared up, I laughed, I enjoyed. The score is beautiful in it as well.
Get Low (5/5)
Starring: Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Bill Murray, & Lucas Black.
"A movie spun out of equal parts folk tale, fable and real-life legend about the mysterious, 1930s Tennessee hermit who famously threw his own rollicking funeral party... while he was still alive."
I don't know if this movie would be considered a 'Dramedy', but it should be. I don't want to say anything about it, other then check it out! It was an excellent flick.
Husk (4.5/5)
Starring: Devon Graye, Wes Chatham, CJ Thomason, & Tammin Sursok.
"A group of friends stranded near a desolate cornfield find shelter in an old farmhouse, though they soon discover the dwelling is the center of a supernatural ritual."
This movie reminds me of that classic cheesy scary movie when you were growing up. Where the acting isn't the greatest, and its fairly predictable, but it still gets you with those scenes. I don't think I have ever screamed in a movie...this movie has taken that honour away from me.
Country Strong (4/5)
Starring: Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund, & Leighton Meester.
I'm not giving a description for this, because when I saw the preview I had no idea what it was about, other then country singers singing away with some sort of relations happening between each other. Check this movie out.
Billy Madison (3/5)
Starring: Adam Sandler.
"In order to inherit his fed up father's hotel empire, an immature and lazy man must repeat grades 1-12 all over again."
If this was the first time I saw this movie, I would have ranked it lower. When I was a kid, I loved this movie, but watching it for the first time in a long time...not so much. I was disgusted and disappointed with most of it. It still had some funny parts and cameos, but not my cup of tea anymore. Then I got to thinking that I watched quite a bit of movies that were pretty inappropriate for me to be watching.
The Sure Thing (5/5)
Starring: John Cusack & Daphne Zuniga.
"A college student plans a cross-country trip to get laid, but ends up traveling with a young woman. They hate each other, so naturally..."
Once again, Tracy, you have amazed me. Thank you for introducing me to what will now become a classic for me! Every time I watch it, I know I will love a new line or scene. Love my 80's genre of movies, love any Cusack, and love Daphne Zuniga. Bring on the cheese.
Penelope (5/5)
Starring: Christina Ricci & James McAvoy.
"A modern romantic tale about a young aristocratic heiress born under a curse that can only be broken when she finds true love with 'one who will love her faithfully'."
I can't believe I haven't seen this movie sooner. Love fairy tales, but that's because I am a hopeless romantic. All the actors were great. Charming movie.

SWMLFW.
How many of you tried to read it as if it were a license plate or something? Even though I knew what it stood for, I tried to read it that way. My backwards mind read it as "SwimFlow", but that doesn't work. How about "SawMilfWalking"? Nope, still not right and a little inappropriate. What it's meant to stand for is "Single White Male Looking For Wife". That's right!
Okay, maybe not a full fledged wife right now, but seeing all my friends around me getting married is definitely giving me "couple envy". I enjoy being single and am quite good at it. Sometimes, it would be nice to have that special someone though.
Here's the thing. I hate dating. I'm the type of guy that excels at being in a relationship, but not so much with the dating scene. Don't get me wrong, I can court like the best of them, but not too many girls are interested in my courting techniques. I can be fairly old school when it comes to that department. If I could find someone who appreciated all the little things I like, and was willing to embrace my quirkiness, then I think we'd be laughing.
I want the comfort stage where we can both sit on the couch in massive ripped clothes, eat chips & dip for dinner without judgement, and pass out watching a lame TV show like CSI: New Jersey. Yet still embracing our romantic side from time to time with love letters, date nights, and thoughtful gifts. I'm the type of person who tries to do "good in life", so whoever I'm with, I want to include them as one of the things I'm good at.
So, if you're single and looking for a husband, please send me your relationship resume.
Are you there wife? It's me, the guy with the smile.

It's me, the guy with the smile.

almond milk.
I've purchased regular milk, soy milk, and almond milk many times before, but I became intrigued when read a blog post regarding homemade almond milk. I figured this had to be difficult, so of course, after work I purchased the supplies to experiment. Ready for the ingredients: Almonds....yep. That's basically it. There are variations, that I will definitely try, but that's the basic ingredient you need. You can add other ingredients to change up the flavour and/or consistency, but you gotta have nuts.
I picked up a container of Almonds that were on sale for $3.00 (about 2 1/2 cups), so it wasn't too pricey. I need to calculate how much Almonds are normally and if it would be worth it to make it regularly. I think it will be a great substitute, especially for cereal.
Anyways, here's my spin on the recipe:
Measure out 1 cup of almonds and put them them in a bowl of water (enough to cover the nuts). These need to soak for at least 8 hours. I threw them in after work and made the milk in the morning. Some of the recipes called for 48 hours, but that seems a little excessive.
Once the almonds have soaked, drain and rinse your nuts. Dump the almonds and 4 cups of fresh water into a blender and blend away.
Now time for the only part that is slightly annoying. Pour the mixture through some form of filter (I used cheesecloth, but I found actual filter bags that can be purchased and re-used multiple times if you like the finished product). Squeeze and wring out the cheesecloth or whatever filter you have so you can get all milky goodness.
The leftover "pulp" of the almonds can be used still. Take a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and sprinkle the "pulp" on it. Place it into the oven on its lowest setting and cook for a couple hours. Voila! You just made almond flour.
Back to the milk.
Once all the liquid is in your container ( I used a 1 Litre Mason Jar), tighten the lid and place in the fridge. It should have the consistency of skim milk, but the flavour or almonds. Each time you go to use it, make sure to give it a little shake. The milk will last about a week. If you want to try adding flavour, add a splash of vanilla or blend in some dates. Like chai latte's? Add some cardamom to the mix and spice it up a notch.
Have you ever made almond milk? Have any pointers for me?

reviews-day tuesday.
Reviews for this week:
Gulliver's Travels (4/5)
Starring: Jack Black, Jason Segel, Amanda Peet, Emily Blunt, Billy Connolly, & Chris O'Dowd.
"Travel writer Lemuel Gulliver takes an assignment in Bermuda, but ends up on the island of Liliput, where he towers over its tiny citizens."
It's a new twist on the classic tale with Jack Black. Completely ridiculous, but I love Mr. Black. He's outrageous and wacky. We share a lot of similarities, especially quoting music into everyday conversation. War, what is it good for?
How Do You Know (4/5)
Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Paul Rudd, and Jack Nicholson.
"After being cut from the USA softball team and feeling a bit past her prime, Lisa finds herself evaluating her life and in the middle of a love triangle, as a corporate guy in crisis competes with her current, baseball-playing beau."
I was really hoping to dislike this movie so I could delete it, but it won my heart over. I love me some beautiful Reese and she plays a fairly strong character in this movie. I think what ended up making me really enjoying this movie, is that I could relate to Paul Rudd...oh joy.
Unstoppable (4/5)
Starring: Denzel Washington & Chris Pine.
"With an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train barreling toward a city, a veteran engineer and a young conductor race against the clock to prevent a catastrophe."
I should probably have appreciated this movie more, knowing it was based on a true story. It was a good movie, but nothing special (for me). If you like intense Drama/Action/Thriller movies, then you'll probably enjoy this movie.
The Rebound (?/5)
Starring: Catherine Zeta-Jones & Justin Bartha.
"In New York City, a single mom captivates her new neighbor, a much younger man."
This movie had SOOO much potential, but struggled in a lot of parts. I am ridiculously similar to Justin Bartha's character. It felt a little rushed, until the end. For me, the last 15 minutes of the movie was amazing. I suggest you watch it, because I need to hear some other opinions on this.

dreamed a little dream.
Have you ever had a dream that lasted a long time?
I don't mean that it went from the time you went to bed until the time you woke up. I don't mean a repeating dream. I mean, have you had a dream where you started off as a little child and it continued on until you were older?
I have had dreams similar to that, but its usually a short span. This weekend however, I had a dream where it lasted years. I was sad about it at first. Let me explain.
It started out basic: born, school, high school, work, but once I got into my twenties, I met a girl. Her name was "Atoose". I have no idea how it was spelled, but everyone called her "Toozie" [When I woke up, I tried finding the name/word for a definition, and the closest I found was "Aatos", which means thought...strange much?] Anyways, she looked similar to Felicia Day. We met at work. It started with shared glances, small conversations, and her wanting to know what I want from her. She couldn't believe I would have any interest in her because of her "baggage". I told her I needed new luggage anyways and wanted the chance to get to know her. She smiled and agreed to a date. She cooked me dinner. It was awful. But, that's where our connection grew. She soon became the love of my life. We got married, had children, and grew old together.
Then I woke up...it was a dream. None of it was real. I was upset.
Due to philosophy classes, I started getting way to philosophical, thinking what if what I am living right now is also a dream? I started thinking, what if I was remembering a past life, or envisioning a future for my next life. I was upset that I thought I had this amazing life and lost it.
After dealing with the crazy emotions, I ended up being okay with it. I remembered that whatever it may be, this is the life I am living right now. We only get one chance, so make the most of it.
So I ask you, have you ever had a dream like that? If so, tell me about it.

SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!
Sorry about no post yesterday. Apparently I was ridiculously busy and my friend BK came into town for a surprise visit. It was nice seeing her, but the visit turned into a party, so I didn't have a chance to really get to catch up. Still a great night, but I didn't get home until after 1:00am, and was just too exhausted at that point. During my sleep last night, I had an incredibly disappointing dream that I will tell you all about in tomorrow's post.
Anyways, here are my song selections for the week:
1. Martin Solveig & Dragonette - Hello
There's a crazy mix of this song that I enjoy as well, but I cannot seem to find it.
Damn late night radio.
