Reviews this week:
Starring: Simon Pegg & Andy Serkis.
"A black comedy about two 19th century grave robbers who find a lucrative business providing cadavers for an Edinburgh medical school." Love my black comedies. The chemistry between Pegg & Serkis is great!
Muriel's Wedding (3.5/5)
Starring: Toni Collette & Rachel Griffiths.
"Muriel finds life in Porpoise Spit, Australia dull and spends her days alone in her room listening to Abba music and dreaming of her wedding day... " So this movie was good, but maybe I dont think I give it enough credit because of the filming. It looks cheap, but quite enjoyable.
The Skeleton Key (5/5)
Starring: Kate Hudson, Gena Rowlands, & Peter Sarsgaard.
"A hospice nurse working at a spooky New Orleans plantation home finds herself entangled in a mystery involving the house's dark past." This is the movie I was talking about the other day! I love it! Who doesnt love a little HooDoo?
Wild America (4/5)
Starring: Devon Sawa, Johnathan Taylor Thomas, & Scott Bairstow.
"Three brothers - Marshall, Marty and Mark dream of becoming naturalists and portraying animal life of America... " So I owned this on VHS twice when I was a kid. Loved it!
Burn After Reading (?/5)
Starring: Fraces McDormand, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, & John Malkovich.
"A disk containing the memoirs of a CIA agent ends up in the hands of two unscrupulous gym employees who attempt to sell it." Alright, can someone else tell me how they feel about this? I am torn. I liked it, but I dont know. There are a lot of parts that I enjoy, but....give me a reason to love it or hate it.
Starring: Matt Damon.
"A drama centered on three people -- a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy -- who are touched by death in different ways." Problem: over 2 hours long and a third of it is in French. Normally, I am okay with subtitles, but my copy did not have any, so 40 minutes of French for me was a little much. You still get the point, but on a Sunday night when your tired isnt worth it. Otherwise, the storyline itself was great.
Philadelphia (5/5)
Starring: Tom Hanks & Denzel Washington.
"When a man with AIDS is fired by a conservative law firm because of his condition, he hires a homophobic small time lawyer as the only willing advocate for a wrongful dismissal suit." I've said it before and I say it again! Its a classic! Such a great touching story!
