Today was another gorgeous day! I am so excited about the season of Winter transitioning into Spring.
I started out my day by making my roomie and I a tasty breakfast. Shortly after that, I assisted her in packing some things up to help her slowly start move out. When she left to take a load to her brothers, I started a load of laundry and organized the basement to make room for the new guys items he may want to store. All of this was done by noon. My cousin called to invite me to a party for her husbands Mom. I really wanted to go, but knew there was going to be plenty of drinking involved and knew I couldn't; so I decided against it.
Next on my list was to chop up some wood and make stakes. I wanted to stake out where I was going to be putting my square foot gardens for this year. Just as I started, my brother showed up with a delivery of firewood! I helped him unload, chatted with him for a while, and wanted to offer him a beer and enjoy one with him, but decided against it. He left and I went back to my stake-making. I've decided the perimeters in my gardens will be made up of cinder blocks, so I'm not having to replace the wood every few years. Plus, with the cinder blocks, I cant eventually build them up high enough that when I am older and cant bend over as easily, I can just sit on the edge and lean into the garden.
After this was done, I came inside to do another load of laundry, have a coffee break, and watch a movie. I won't go into details about that, since I'm sure I can talk about it on Tuesday, but it's a favourite of mine.
The afternoon was almost over and I was starting to get hungry. I made a tasty dinner and all I could think about was having a glass of wine with my pasta. I decided against it. I finished dinner, cleaned up the mess, and made up some leftover containers for lunch this week.
I started channel surfing and came across the Jersey Shore. I thought I would give it a chance, since I know so many people that are obsessed with it. After about one minute in, I was appalled, but couldn't look away. Now I see why people get hooked. Plus this "Snooki" and Deena character are quite the pair of "meatballs", I believe they called themselves. Anyways, I really couldn't handle it, so I went outside and decided I could make my own syrup. I tapped a tree with a hammer and a Flathead screwdriver, shoved my wine spout into it, and hooked an old coffee container up to it. After about an hour, I already had a 1/2 cup of sap. I think I might be able to do this.
Anyways, I talked and joked with a couple of family members on the phone tonight and we talked about lent...We decided against it. That's right. I'm back on the drinking wagon.
Even Ma joked tonight, "Do what you do best son!".
Bottoms up friends!
P.S. I do think I did well. I accomplished 8 days before St. Patrick's Day. I don't think I should've been allowed to cheat. That was the problem.
